Internet Sensation Tung Tung @ Pomato Welcomes You to KIFF Carnival!

The 7th Hong Kong Kids International Film Festival is delighted to invite "Queen of Pop" Kelly Chen and Tung Tung @ Pomato as the Festival Ambassador and Carnival Ambassador respectively. Meanwhile, Tung Tung, loved by many young netizens, takes on the role of Carnival Ambassador, bringing endless joy and excitement to the event.

Kelly deeply understands the significance of films in educating the next generation, which is why she gladly accepted the invitation to become KIFF’s ambassador this year. Kelly hopes that this film festival will provide an opportunity for children to appreciate high-quality films in cinemas, thus opening up a world of imagination for them to explore and cultivating their interest in movies from an early age.

She also expressed that through a series of film related activities, the festival promotes film culture to children and therefore is a catalyst in the development of the film industry.

Tung Tung is also excited and honoured to serve as this year’s Carnival Ambassador. As a video content creator, she understands the impact of films. She hopes to promote children's film culture and contribute to the growth of the film industry through different platforms.

A Selection of Films Catered to Different Age Groups
Over 30 Screenings Will be Held

Festival Period: July 29th – August 6th 2023

A total of 11 films have been selected to screen at this year’s festival. To cater for the needs of viewers of different ages, and to help parents choose the suitable films for the family, each film at KIFF is marked as one of the below three categories for your reference:

[1st Movie Experience] Suitable for kids from 2 to 5 years old. Auditorium lighting will be turned up and volume will be lowered to suit the needs of kids. This category includes Best Birthday Ever (Germany), an adaptation of the famous book series by Rotraut Susanne Bener; Tale of Rally 2023 (Hong Kong), and Anpanman: Roboly and the Warming Present (Japan).

[Parent-Child Movie Time] Suitable for kids from 6 to 11 years old. KIFF encourages family to enjoy movies together and share meaningful conversation afterwards. This category includes the classic animation Lion King (1994) (USA), Sound of Silence as presented by Save the Children; Danish animation Little Allan – The Human Antenna (Denmark); Nominated for Berlin International Film Festival, Germany (2023) Generation Kplus - Best Film and KIFF’s opening film, Just Super (Norway); Ariel Awards, Mexico (2022) - Best Feature Length Animated Film, Little Eggs: An African Rescue (Mexico) and the Ambassador’s Choice, Dounia and the Princess of Aleppo (Canada).

[Hangout & Film Appreciation] Suitable for teenagers aged 12 to 16. KIFF encourages film-going experience and an in-depth appreciation of film storytelling and techniques. This category includes Dancing Queen (Norway), a film nominated for Berlin International Film Festival, Germany (2023) – Nominated for Generation Kplus - Best Film and KIFF’s closing film, Blueback (Australia).

Save the Children Hong Kong has always been committed to supporting and improving the mental health of children and adolescents in Hong Kong. Therefore, the organization has made a special selection from KIFF’s line up this year -  a Hong Kong drama Sound of Silence, with the aim to raise awareness among audiences and the general public about the importance of children's mental health. When Sound of Silence was screened at KIFF last year, it resonated with many parents. However, due to limited screenings, many viewers did not have the opportunity to watch it. This year, proudly presented by Save the Children, the film will be screened again in hopes that it will contribute to the enhancement of children's mental health. All proceeds from ticket sales, after deducting costs, will be donated to Save the Children. Through film and art, we hope to drive attention and support towards Hong Kong children and families.

Post Screening Sharing Session After Each Screening

In order to help children understand the meanings behind films, a 15-minute film discussion session (conducted in Cantonese) will be held after each screening. KIFF  has invited a group of experts from the film, cultural, and education sectors to engage in dialogue with children and adolescents, sharing different perspectives and sparking interests in film appreciation. The aim is to foster the habit of critical thinking and encourage  intellectual and educational discussion. This year's film discussion session will feature guest speakers such as Hong Kong Film Awards Best New Director, Chan Siu Kuen (Still Human); Hong Kong Film Awards Best New Director, Jessey Tsang (Big Blue Lake); Lost Love‘s director – Ka Sing Fung; Actors Sam Chan and Sean Wong from Sound of Silence; Actress from The Way We Dance - Lydia Lau; Director and scriptwriter Erica Li and Alex Lam from Hong Kong Aquaculture. We hope that the sharing session will become a topic of conversation among parents and children, serving as a bridge for communication and understanding between them. Furthermore, parents can utilize films to instill in their children the correct values and principles.

Compared to previous editions, this year's KIFF features the largest number of film screenings and a wide range of exciting workshop activities. Co-founder of the Hong Kong Kids International Film Festival (KIFF), Edmon Chung, said, "KIFF aims to gather wonderful films from different countries with meaningful content for children and teenagers, actively creating opportunities for them to appreciate film as an art form." Co-founder of KIFF, Winnie Tsang, stressed, "We hope KIFF can cultivate the habit of young people and children going to the cinema to enjoy films. In addition to supporting a sustainable development of the industry, we also hope to enrich their understanding of culture, art, and creative media." KIFF is very grateful for the support of Kelly Chen and Tung Tung in promoting children's film culture. We sincerely hope that through their influence in their respective fields, more people will pay attention to children's film culture and their education.
