夢想成為導演的Katie Mitchell考入電影系，終於可以離開屋企，遠走高飛，迎接多姿多彩的大學生活。點知出發前同崇尚自然兼有科技恐懼症的老竇大炒一鑊，連手提電腦都被他打爛了…… 老竇為了補鑊，決定取消阿女張機票，改為全家公路旅行送她上大學，留下美好回憶。於是，Katie就和爸媽、細佬，加埋隻狗，一起展開這趟親子大旅行。豈料途中遇上新推出的高科技家務助理機械人策動智能叛變，更號召一眾電子產品及家庭電器，聯手對付操控他們多時的人類！Mitchell一家不是超人特攻隊，只是一個功能失調的怪咖家庭，但今次拯救世界的重任，竟然落在他們身上？！
